Trigger Point Dry Needling

Ever heard of Trigger Point Dry Needling?
Here at Active Hand Therapy, our Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists are skilled in providing this service to reduce musclar tension and pain
What is Dry Needling?
Trigger Point Dry Needling involves placing a small needle into a muscle at the trigger point. This results in a twitch response, causing the muscle to contract and relax.
Trigger Point Dry Needling reduces musclar tension, improves flexibility and reduces muscular related pain.
What will I experience?
The dry needles used are very thin without a cutting edge and the likelihood of any significant tissue trauma is unlikely. If the muscle being needled is tight and sensitive, you will feel a cramping or twitch sensation. This is very short- lasting and is followed by a feeling of pain relief and muscle relaxation.
Are there any risks?
- Temporary muscle soreness (most common and typically lasts for a day or two)
- Bruising
- Pneumothorax (accidental puncture of a lung)
- Infection
- Nerve injury
As needles used are very small and do not have a cutting edge, the likelihood of significant tissue trauma is very low.
Please consult with your therapist if you have any questions about risks associated with the procedure.
How often will I need treatmet?
Treatment will typically occur once a week to allow sufficient time for recovery.
However this may vary and will depend on various factors. Our therapists will design a treatment plan tailored to your indivudual needs.
Contraindications of Dry Needling?
Prior to treatment please inform your clinician if you are pregnant, or have any of the following:
- Metal allergies
- Implants
